A Letter from the President
When I started Waquis way back in 2000, the world was a very different place. The internet was, really, only about six years old. The idea of having a team working in India was very exciting and new for companies. They embraced the idea with open arms.
Cut to 2009 and everything changed. The Great Recession needed a scapegoat and foreign workers were conveniently provided. Suddenly, all of America's ills were blamed on globalization and foreigners without any context or truth. Then again, recessions (and depressions) are always blamed on someone else.
In my thirty year business career, starting and building Waquis is, without a doubt, the most fulfilling endeavor I've ever been involved with. I love traveling to other countries and being able to work in both India and Sri Lanka has been enriching beyond belief. Getting to know their cultures and peoples has opened my eyes to so many new things and ways of thinking. I believe we've had over twenty marriages from people at Waquis and the number of Waquis 'babies' is in the thirties. Each time I go back it's more like visiting friends and family than business.
When I started the company, I wanted the premium to be on quality and the ability to give very personalized service to our clients and I'm proud to say we've never lost sight of that vision. To my recollection, we've never lost a client due to poor performance in almost twenty years of business.
I know that having staff in a foreign company can be a scary prospect. I also understand that, in this political climate, it can be a 'touchy' thing. The truth is we lived in a globalized world and will continue to do so. I'm proud of the jobs we've created and the people and companies we're helping. I hope the next twenty years have been as good as the first twenty.
